E-Bikes Accommodated at Cycle4CANSA
The Bestmed Cycle4CANSA Championship, presented by Optimum Financial Services on 25-26 August 2018, will accommodate e-bikes in the short distance options of the mountain-bike as well as the road event.
Riders with e-bikes will start in their own group ahead of the field in the 25km mountain-bike and 70km road event respectively.
“We would like to fuel the growing interest in e-bikes. Because they don’t form part of the racing categories there is no reason not allow them to enjoy the weekend with us,” said event organiser Mauritz Meyer.
“E-bike riders need to be aware that they can’t form part of any official category prizes and that they will start separate of the field in their own batch,” he said.
“No drafting behind an e-bike will be allowed and e-bikes will be denoted as such on the results and time sheets.”
The e-bike batch in the 25km mountain-bike event will start at 07h00 (half an hour before the first batch) and in the 70km road race the e-bikers will take off at 08h00 (5 minutes before the start of the first 70km batch).
The Bestmed Cycle4CANSA Road Classic offers distances of 103km and 70km and takes place on Sunday, 26 August. The MTB Classic, which presents 25km and 50km route options, fills the Saturday slot (25 August) over the weekend cycling festival.
The road race route is fast and flat has received stunning feedback over the past two editions following the return to the traditional route in 2016.
The Cycle4CANSA Road Championship is a premier seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and proceeds from the event go to the Cancer Association of South Africa.
The 21st anniversary edition has seen a dramatic upswing in entries with a host of cancer survivors making the trip back to Sun City this year as well as riders who have taken part in the race somewhere along the line over the past 21 years.
The casino resort offers convenient and safe parking as well as a variety of family entertainment options once the racing is done, including free entry into the Valley of Waves.
