ILoveBoobies and CANSA Work together screening 130 Farm Workers
Durbanville, Cape Town 26-28 July 2018 –
ILoveBoobies partnered with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and sent Mobile Screening Clinics to 11 different wine farms in Durbanville. 130 Farm workers were screened over three days and 4 women were referred for further urgent examination.
“When a farm worker feels a lump in her breast, it mostly gets ignored. The journey to a medical facility takes days of travelling and leave of absence from work and family. By sending Mobile Health Screening Clinics into the villages and farms, there is a greater chance of early detection” said Nicky Webb, Director of ILoveBoobies ZA NPC.
The CANSA Mobile Health Screening Clinic was based at Grootphesantekraal, Altydgedacht and Durbanville Hills, the adjoining Farms : Welbeloond, Klein Roosboom, Hillcrest Estate, Maastricht, Moresterrejies, Morgenster, Hooggelegen and Nitida Cellars brought their Farm workers over to join the education talks and screening facility.
Positive Impact
ILoveBoobies is a non-profit company that raises funds by selling distinctly recognizable ILoveBoobies socks and receiving donations.
“We’ve sold over 10 000 pairs of socks to raise the funds needed to send these clinics to the rural communities where health care is scarce. “For every 5 pairs of socks sold, 1 woman is screened” It costs R250.00 per screening, so I think we are doing pretty great!” comments Kim Webb, Marketing and Sales of ILoveBoobies.
“Early detection can save lives and can save families”
