Salisha’s story of why she is running in support of CANSA Active:

The role of a mother is only fully appreciated when you walk in her shoes. Until then, her sleepless nights, strife’s to provide when resources are few, and reasons for firm discipline are unprecedented.

My gran, now 82 years of age, may not have had all the luxuries in life, yet she has nurtured 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She taught us to be humble, respectful and to work tirelessly to
achieve our goals.

Despite the challenges she experienced in her early years, which included loosing her belongings several times during floods which often swept through her hometown, becoming a widow at the age of 56, taking care of her youngest daughter when she was diagnosed with cancer and the passing of her eldest son 12 years ago; she fought fiercely through a triple bypass, breast cancer and COVID-19 most recently.

Her will to live in the face of all adversities to continue to support her family is incredible! She’s a stalwart of note and an inspiration to us.

This year, I will be running the Cape Town marathon (42.2km), on 18 October, in honour of my gran, Kasturi (Nela) Singh Narrandes. I urge you to make a contribution towards my goal of R2 500 for CANSA so that you can be part of changing lives meaningfully and together we can venerate a woman of strength.
