Ali Erskine And Paul Scrutton Take On Mossel Bay Ironman 2024 For CANSA Active
Three years ago, Ali Erskine met a family that profoundly impacted her life. Her initial encounter with her partner, Paul Scrutton’s, family was intimidating, given their renowned adventurous lifestyle – from ultra marathons to full Ironmans. Mandy and Neill Scrutton, known for their leadership in endurance sports, instilled a passion for a healthy, active lifestyle in their children, who excel in endurance athletics while also enjoying life’s pleasures. Ali was inspired to become a part of this lifestyle and hasn’t looked back since.
Ali shares, “I have volunteered for CANSA in many sport events and it is an association that I feel very drawn to. My father was diagnosed and treated for a melanoma in 2019 and, two years ago, Neill (Paul’s father), battled and triumphed over metastatic melanoma, becoming cancer-free. Inspired by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)’s commitment to sun protection and involvement in outdoor sports events, Paul and I, are participating in the 2024 Mossel Bay Ironman to raise awareness about skin cancer among athletes exposed to the sun. An outdoor event such as Ironman is a great place to promote skin cancer awareness, and we are passionate about promoting this cause.”
Ali and Paul will compete, individually, in the half Ironman – with Paul being a South African long-and-short course triathlete and Ali an elite female cyclist, relatively new to the scene of triathlons.
