Sophia Alley – “Cancer is just a chapter, my story is far from over.”

On Sunday, 7 July, Sophia Alley completed the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Durban 10K, showcasing her determination and resilience. As a CANSA Active Champion, Sophia participated in the event to raise awareness for cancer patients, while also celebrating her own journey as a cancer warrior and survivor. Her incredible spirit and commitment to the cause inspire us all to continue the fight against cancer.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and in November 2023, my cancer was back. Over the last 8 months, my unconquerable spirit has been put to the test with 2 surgeries within a week, 12 cycles of Chemotherapy, 3 weeks of double dosage of radiotherapy, peripheral neuropathy and hospitalisation for Covid-19. I am currently receiving treatment for adjuvant Trastuzumab every 3 weeks, until December 2024, and on an aromatase inhibitor. It is easy to let cancer take over your life and to be consumed by the treatments and the not feeling good. Many people question me as to why I work and keep being such a go-getter… It is simple,  if I don’t do what I love, then cancer is winning.

Cancer is just a chapter, my story is far from over.”
