Volunteer to Run 100 Miles for CANSA

29 June 2018 – Jennifer Sharpe-Scott will run 171 km for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), from the 17th to the 19th July 2018. This is the equivalent of 106 miles, and she is encouraging anyone else who enjoys walking, running or cycling to join her. Donations towards this project can be made on a safe and secure online platform on https://www.givengain.com/activist/153502/projects/16671/

Jennifer, who volunteers for CANSA in Vereeniging, was at an all-time low in July 2017, and was out for a walk, when blinded by her tears, she literally bumped into a local farmer. Little did she know that his words to her would inspire her to take on such a mammoth run for CANSA.

He said, “Jennifer, when I see you running as I drive past, I won’t wave at you. I will salute you!” The gentleman proceeded to salute her and she felt her morale lifted to such heights that she believed she could run 100 miles. After sharing this experience with a CANSA colleague, Jennifer was delighted when a day later her colleague said that CANSA would support her if she decided that she really wanted to run those 100 miles.

Says Jennifer, “I know cancer Survivors, and have lost a lot of loved ones to cancer. I made a promise to my cousin Adrian, who was also taken at a young age due to cancer, that I would do this in honour of him. I would like to raise funds for CANSA so that I can help those who are not able to run, because of this disease.”

She continues, “The route I will take, will take 3 days to run – from Oranjeville to Frankfort (54 km); Frankfort to Reitz (65 km), and from Reitz to Bethlehem (52 km) – a total of 171 km or 106 miles. I would like to challenge anyone else who enjoys running, cycling or walking, to join me and do ‘a hundred miles for CANSA’, so that we can help those affected by cancer.”
