CANSA Active Champions Take on the 2025 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon

Running any one of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon events is more than just a race — it’s an unforgettable journey through the cultural landmarks and vibrant spirit of one of Africa’s most iconic cities. Often hailed as the most beautiful marathon route in the world, this event brings together runners from all walks of life to celebrate endurance, purpose, and community.

CANSA is proud to be part of this incredible experience through our CANSA Active campaign.

Our CANSA Active Champions are not only running to raise awareness and vital funds in support of those affected by cancer — they’re also sharing their personal stories of courage, hope, and resilience in the face of cancer. Join us as we celebrate their inspiring journeys.

Meet the Champions:

Melda Ruiters, multiple myeloma and bone marrow transplant survivor, is participating in the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon as a CANSA Active Ambassador.
“Prior to being diagnosed with the multiple myeloma one of my biggest hobbies were road running. I took part in numerous marathons, half marathons and 10km races in various provinces. In 2015 I entered for the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (56km) however I couldn’t run the race due to health issues, but today I am back on the road! Before I had cancer it was all about improving my time. Today I am just happy to be able to run for a cause that matters – I run for CANSA, because I am still able to make a difference through my running. My advice to cancer patients is to not give up or stop believing. There is always hope beyond what you see. It is important to have a positive mindset and to connect with others. Make beautiful memories while you can!”
