Entries for 21st Cycle4CANSA Limited to 4000
Due to a startling increase in the entry uptake for this year’s special 21st anniversary edition of the Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Championship, hosted by Sun City, race organiser Mauritz Meyer has announced an entry limit of 4 000 riders for the road event. Entries will close once the entry limit has been reached.
The 21st edition of the Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Championship, hosted by Sun City on 25 and 26 August 2018, is shaping up to be the biggest version of the event for the past 15 years.
“The interest for the 21st edition is unparalleled and to ensure rider safety we have taken the precautionary measure to limit entries to 4 000 riders for the road race and 1500 riders for the mountain-beg leg,” said Meyer.

The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Championship is one of the oldest races on the calendar and the old favourite received an incredible injection two years ago when the road race was able to return to its original route which once saw the event attract 8000 riders.
The move was made possible by presenting the road race on the Sunday instead of the Saturday during the weekend cycling festival.
This saw the entrant numbers for the road race increase dramatically last year while it also saw a bigger uptake on the mountain bike leg of proceedings, which, of course, moved to the popular Saturday MTB slot.
Sun City have put together special accommodation packages for the Friday and Saturday evening over race weekend which also includes breakfast. More info on this is available on www.cansalostcity.co.za
The Road Classic offers distances of 103km and 70km and takes place on Sunday, 26 August. The MTB Classic, which presents 25km and 50km route options, fills the Saturday slot (25 August) over the weekend cycling festival.
The road race route is fast and flat and according to Meyer it has received stunning feedback over the past two editions following the return to the traditional route in 2016. “Because it takes place on the Sunday the roads were quiet and perfectly suited to present a mass participation race in safe surroundings,” he said.
The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Road Championship is a premier seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the event has to date raised in excess of R3.6 Million for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).
The 21st anniversary edition has seen a dramatic upswing in entries with a host of cancer survivors making the trip back to Sun City this year as well as riders who have taken part in the race somewhere along the line in the past 21 years.
The casino resort offers convenient and safe parking as well as a variety of family entertainment options once the racing is done, including free entry into the Valley of Waves.
